There is no single best brake setup for every car. The best setup is the one that matches how you drive. So instead of naming one winner, here is what we recommend by use case, based on the setups our customers run every day. We are a manufacturer, so these are the parts we make and stand behind, matched to real driving.
How we pick
Three things decide the right setup: how you drive, the quality of the parts, and correct fitment for your car. Get those three right and you have the best brakes for your situation. Get any one wrong and even expensive parts will disappoint. If you want the groundwork first, see what brake rotors are and our slotted vs dimpled vs drilled guide.
Best for daily driving
For everyday driving, you do not need much. A plain disc will do the job. That said, most of our customers step up to an S or R type slotted disc, because the price difference is small and you get better braking and a better looking disc. Pair it with a general purpose pad and you have a quiet, clean, reliable setup.
Best for towing and 4WD
Towing loads your brakes the same way hard driving does. We recommend a slotted disc with an upgraded brake pad, and a high temperature brake fluid to round it out. That combination handles the sustained heat that towing creates without fading.
Best for spirited and track driving
This is where the good gear earns its keep. We suggest our R type or J type slotted discs. Pair them with our 600 degree pads, or a suitable EBC pad, depending on what you are chasing. The J type in particular is built for track use, where the disc and an aggressive pad have to work together.
Best by popular vehicle
The right parts change from car to car, so the smartest move is to search your exact vehicle. Popular cars we set up regularly include the VE and VF Commodore, the BA to FGX Falcon, the Subaru WRX, the Mazda 3 and the Toyota Landcruiser. Each has its own disc applications and its own quirks, which is why matching to your specific car matters.
For the two big Aussie sedans we get asked about most, we have full guides: the VE and VF Commodore brake guide and the Ford Falcon BA to FGX brake guide. Otherwise, start with our vehicle finder to see what fits.
How to choose, in short
If you drive normally, an S or R type slotted disc with a general purpose pad is plenty. If you tow or drive hard, step up to an R or J type disc, an upgraded pad and a high temperature fluid. If you are unsure, the safest path is to match parts to your exact car and driving style, and reach out if you want a recommendation.
