This guide is for Ford Falcon owners across the BA, BF, FG and FGX, including the XR6, XR6 Turbo, XR8 and G6E. Factory brake setups across BA to FGX
Most of these Falcons run PBR brakes from the factory. Brembo calipers were available as a factory option, but only on certain cars, and they are fairly rare. As with any car, the disc your Falcon needs depends on the caliper it has, so match the parts to your exact variant.
The common Falcon brake issue
Falcons have a well known factory issue with discs that warp. It is common enough that most owners run into it eventually. The good news is there is a proper way to fix it rather than just replacing like for like and waiting for it to happen again. The root of it is that the Falcon has what we would call undersized factory brakes for how much performance these cars make. That is even more true on modified cars with more power. Bigger loads and more heat on brakes that were marginal to begin with is what leads to the warping feeling, and often to brake fade when you push them.
Best rotor upgrades
The upgrade we recommend is a slotted disc paired with a pad that suits your driving style. For performance, an R type or J type slotted disc with a 600 degree brake pad is ideal for these cars. It handles the heat these Falcons generate far better than the factory setup.
For a daily driven Falcon, a VMAX S type slotted disc, or a standard disc, with a general purpose pad does the job nicely.
